I finally had
the opportunity to attend a workshop with Freeman Patterson and André
Gallant. While New Brunswick has charm and beauty, this is not a tour to an exotic destination, but rather a
workshop focusing on visual design and creativity. The images I have
chosen to display here are primarily montages of some type, i.e.
two or more images overlaid. In this case most of the images are
combined with an out-of-focus copy of the same image, what André calls
dreamscapes, and also referred to in Canadian circles as "Orton's" after
Michael Orton who popularized this technique some years ago. In the
computer many different effects can be explored, and one of the images
here is a montage from a photograph that was already abstracted when shot
using a pan and zoom technique (thanks to Freeman for reminding me about
this). While I had experimented with these types of montages
previously, I found that the old cars, old house, and graveyard images all
seemed to respond appealingly to this treatment. Perhaps it has
something to do with the air at Shampers Bluff...
